On the Job Training for Oil Spill Related Dislocated
Workers
The Gulf Coast Workforce Board is offering an On the Job Training
program to assist individuals in Bay, Gulf, or Franklin counties that have
been displaced as a direct result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Through this federally funded grant program, the Gulf Coast Workforce
Board will help place qualifying individuals into a job where they can
get hands on experience in a new field.
If you have lost your job due to the oil spill and are interested in on the job training assistance, please contact

Franklin Counties.

Job Seeker
Workshops
The Workforce Center is
now offering free employment workshops to
assist individuals
find jobs. The workshops last approximately one
hour and will cover valuable information including job search tools,
interviewing techniques, resume instructions,
referrals to career counselors, and unemployment compensation benefits.
Workshops will be held every Wednesday at 10 AM at the Workforce
Center. Space is limited.

Resume Writing
Workshops
The Workforce Center is
now offering free Resume Writing
Workshops every Wednesday from 1:30 - 4:00 PM at the Center.
Whether you’re creating a resume for the first time or trying to
revamp or update an old one, the Resume Writing Workshop can help!
Sign up today to learn valuable tips on how to develop a resume that
stands out from the crowd.

Free Computer Classes
The Gulf Coast
Workforce Board is offering
free computer training classes every Wednesday during the month of
February. Classes are
designed with a beginner in mind and cover information needed for
basic computer usage, effective internet use as well as an introduction to Microsoft Word, Excel,
and PowerPoint. Space is limited. To register for classes,
sign up in Resource Room at the Workforce Center.

Unemployment
Compensation
Unemployment Compensation (also called unemployment insurance)
provides temporary wage replacement benefits to qualified
individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own.
The
Employ Florida Marketplace, Florida's online job matching and
workforce resource website can help with your job search while you
are out of work.
Claims Process
All unemployment compensation claims must be filed online at
https://www2.myflorida.com/fluid/.
If you do not have
internet access, public computers are available at the Workforce
Center and other one stop career centers as well as local public
libraries, community centers and colleges and universities (if you
are a student). Unemployment compensation claimants filing a
new claim are required to complete the
Initial Skills Review before receiving benefits and must
prove that they are actively looking for work while receiving
benefits.
